Warren Jeffs?
A convicted child rapist who led a cult built on forced marriages, sexual abuse, and the exploitation of women and children in Colorado City, Arizona. A lead investigator called the cult “the number one domestic human traffickers in the country.”
When a bipartisan group of lawmakers, law enforcement officials, and survivors pushed legislation to crack down on the corrupt system that was protecting Warren Jeffs and enabling the abuse of women and children, a bill passed the Arizona House with overwhelming bipartisan support.

Andy Biggs had the power to do something about it.
A convicted child rapist

When a bipartisan group of lawmakers, law enforcement officials, and survivors pushed legislation to crack down on the corrupt system that was protecting Warren Jeffs and enabling the abuse of women and children, a bill passed the Arizona House with overwhelming bipartisan support.
Andy Biggs had the power to do something about it.
Instead, as Senate President, Andy Biggs single-handedly blocked the legislation and ensured it never got a vote in the Senate, allowing the sexual and psychological abuse to continue.
Fellow Republicans later accused then-Senate President Andy Biggs of personally killing the legislation. One said Biggs had let women and children suffer. Another said Biggs’ decision to block the bill was equivalent to "protecting pedophiles."
Because the bill died, the abuse didn’t stop.
Instead, as Senate President, Andy Biggs single-handedly blocked the legislation and ensured it never got a vote in the Senate, allowing the sexual and psychological abuse to continue.

Women who escaped the cult continued fighting to regain custody of their children, who had been taken from them. It ultimately took years of litigation and federal intervention to dismantle the corrupt system Andy Biggs protected.
As one Republican later put it, "Women and children suffered three years longer than they should have because he protected the bad guys."
Last year, Biggs cast doubt on whether the people protecting Warren Jeffs were “absolutely corrupt” and questioned whether the state should have intervened at all. When asked if his actions may have allowed the abuse in Colorado City to continue, Biggs said,
“No, I wasn’t concerned.”
